Your chat stays on your phone. This page says what we do keep, where, and how to have it removed.
Who is responsible
Mistletoe Village is made by Swoon. For anything on this page, write to hello@swoon.world.
Your chat
- You choose the WhatsApp chat between the two of you. The file is read on your own phone, in your browser, and is never sent to our servers or to any AI.
- It also works with no connection: open the page, turn on airplane mode, then add your chat. Only paying needs the internet.
- If the file is a group chat, it is still read on your phone and not sent. We use the two people who talk the most and show a warning. Cards about a group are less accurate, so use the chat between the two of you.
- The file and its messages are not kept anywhere by us. While you decide, the finished results (not the messages) can stay in this browser tab so a payment redirect does not lose them.
What goes into your village
Your village is built from computed results only: counts, times and dates, short labels, your top emoji, up to three pet names, and the two display names as you edited them. These are stored in a world package on our servers so that you and your person can open the same private link. If you add a passcode, the question is stored in the clear and the answer is stored as a hash. Your messages are never part of the package.
The package is kept until it is deleted; there is no automatic expiry yet. To have a village deleted, email hello@swoon.world with the link.
Birth details (astrology)
Birth details are worked out on your phone too. Your village keeps only the signs and scores, not the dates, times or places themselves. Taken together, signs like these can hint at roughly when each of you was born.
The waitlist
When you join, you tick a box to say you want one email when the village opens. We store:
Your email (lowercased, once), your first name if you give one, the time you agreed to hear from us, and where you came from: campaign tags in the link, the website that sent you, a two-letter country from our network, the invite code of whoever shared the link with you (if any), and your personal invite code. We never store your IP address. We count visits to this page ourselves, with no cookies and no third-party trackers: each visit is stored as its time, the campaign tags, the website that sent you, any invite code in the link and the country, and is not linked to your email. We have not set up email yet, so nobody has been emailed. We will email you once, at opening, and every email will carry an unsubscribe link. To be deleted sooner, email hello@swoon.world and your row is removed.
Signing up uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that you are not a bot. Turnstile processes your IP address and some browser signals to do that, on Cloudflare's side; we do not store them. See the Cloudflare Turnstile Privacy Addendum.
Early-bird invite links are tied to your waitlist position and are removed with your row. They are sent by private link later and never shown on the page. If you enter an email that is already on the list, the confirmation only says so; it never shows that person's position or invite link. The waitlist lives in a Cloudflare D1 database.
Playing together
When the two of you play on two phones, a small room on Cloudflare (a Durable Object, one per village) passes your display names, your avatar look, where each of you stands and which way you face, which cards are opened, and hugs and kisses you both agree to. It never carries your chat or birth details. The room holds this in memory while you play and is not a record of your visit.
Payments
Payment is handled by our payment provider, not by this site. We do not see or store your card or bank details. We get back a receipt that says a payment was made, the amount and currency. We may change provider, for example to one that suits your country better; this page will be updated when that happens.
Cookies and device storage
- We use no advertising or analytics cookies and no third-party trackers. We count visits to the landing page ourselves.
- Opening a village sets one cookie, a play session, so you do not have to enter a passcode again on that device. It is needed for the village to work.
- Your browser also keeps, on your device only: your light or dark choice, your avatar look, which seat you hold in your village's room, a once-per-tab flag so a visit is counted once, and the tab draft described above.
Children
Mistletoe Village is not for anyone under 18. Please do not use it, or join the waitlist, if you are younger.
